Art that will change you

There is so much art out there, so many forms of it that can change your world. You can read it, look at it, listen to it, watch it, consume it with every fibre of your being.

Dead Poet’s Society – Directed by Peter Weir

This film is the most amazing film in the world. Robin Williams character is just so empowering and he plays it so well. This movie deals with all things that one must deal with when they are young and scared of life, and feeling like all adults want to suppress ones creativity. Please watch this film.

The Great Gatsby – F. Scott Fitzgerald

This novel is the most amazing form of literature in the world. For such a tiny, narrow thin book it is bursting with the most amazing symbolism and commentary on human society. Read this book, and re-read it over and over again – because I promise you, every time you read it you will find something new.

Lee Miller’s Photography

Lee Miller the war photographer and model. She took the most beautifully haunting raw honest photos – revealing the truth behind the pain of war.

Villanelle – Roland Leighton

This is my favourite poem in the entire world – there is something about it that makes me feel so many feelings – tranquillity, sadness, a form of content. I love this poem so so so much.

Wislawa Szymborska’s poetry

Her poems are so blunt, there isn’t a lot of digging needed to figure out the message she is trying to portray. They are so powerful and I just love them so much – some of my favourites are Torture, Cat in an Empty Apartment, Starvation Camp at Jaslo, A Word on Statistics.

  1. Dead Poet’s Society is beautiful, both the movie and the book (if you haven’t read it, i would definitely recommend it).
